Public Safety

Arlington County is consistently ranked as one of the safest places to live in the country, and we are very proud of it. Unfortunately, we have seen some troubling trends arise in recent years; for example, property crimes in Arlington have increased consistently every year since 2022. Virginians should be able to cross the street, ride the metro, and relax at home without worrying about their safety. As your delegate, I will always stand by victims of crime, stand up for the civil rights of our incarcerated, and support proven policies to help keep our communities safe.

  • Arlington County Fire Department and Arlington County Police Department are both reporting staffing shortages that are hindering their ability to keep our county safe. I promise to help end this shortage by whatever means available at the Commonwealth level.

  • I will support legislation that invests in crisis intervention systems, as well as funds mental health courts, drug courts, and veterans courts. I also support increasing criminal penalties on straw purchases of firearms and firearms trafficking.

  • I will support all policies that are proven to reduce recidivism and break the cycle of criminality. This includes providing educational opportunities and vocational trainings in our corrections system.

  • I am a firm believer in second chances, and I totally support legislation that restores the right to vote of those persons who have served their time as sentenced.
